A fiber media converter is a simple networking device that makes it possible to connect two dissimilar media types such as twisted pair with fiber optic cabling. Due to the limitation of signal transmission through LAN (UTP) cables to a maximum distance of 100 meters, in practical use, there may be a need to connect networks over distances exceeding 100 meters, such as in projects for installing surveillance cameras in public areas or roads in villages or communities, which have connection distances greater than 100 meters, or in some cases, distances exceeding 10-100 kilometers. They are also used in metropolitan area network (MAN) access and data transport services to enterprise customers.
